A Year in the Life of a Teacher

Hard to believe the year is almost over! Way back in August I shared an idea to do a year long Day in the Life project where a group of us would post monthly about a regular day as well as any important days throughout the year. And we did it! A dozen of us wrote up all sorts of stories from the year (most of mine are still on evernote but I have them!) and now we need to figure out what to do with them. They're currently on tumblr but a bunch of random posts don't tell a story. The next step is to figure out the story we want to tell and the best way to tell it.

Current ideas:
  • Take a quote from each post and turn it into a page a day calendar type thing that links to each post. Maybe even create a twitter account that tweeted each day? The quotes could focus on a theme.

  • Pick a couple contrasting people (new and veteran, urban and rural, private and Title I) and interweave their posts into a story of the diversity of teaching situations that shows the commonalities as well as the differences.

  • Take all of one person’s posts, plus extra stuff like their tweets for the year and make an in depth study of that person’s year. Add in additional text to make it a story? How do journal style books work?

If you're interested in helping us think this through, editing or publicizing let me know and I'll add you to a google doc for discussion!
