Last year we collected 55 posts for "The Best of the Math Teacher Blogs 2015" via tweets and submissions to create a book of posts from 2015 (11 stories, 11 tasks, 9 teacher learning reports, 24 thoughts about teaching). We raised $897 which will be donated to TMC.
This year we have 36 submissions so far. We hope to get more from David's #bestofMTBoS2016. It's not too late for you to submit your favorite post you read or wrote in 2016. Submission form here!
However, one of my new years resolutions is to ask for help. I have a bad habit of getting excited for things and then signing myself up for more than I can handle. So, in order to make this work we'd love some help. If anyone is able to volunteer to do any of these tasks please leave a comment!
- merging spreadsheets for submissions and permissions
- cross referencing hashtag(s) with the spreadsheet
- cross referencing Michael's post with the spreadsheet
- organizing posts into balanced chapters
- moving information into pressbooks
- editing html (match formatting, resize images)
- editing text (light editing for length)
- cover design
- deciding how best to use the funds (the initial plan was to support teachers in attending TMC but we haven't figured out the details)
I'd like to know the timeline for these tasks. I think I can organizing posts into balanced chapters and edit text. I'd love to help with the book this year, if I can.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Timeline would be January, some of these are dependent on the tasks above them being done first so precise dates are tricky. It took us a couple months to get together last year but I think we could cut that down to a month now that we know what we're doing!

ReplyDeleteOh, sorry, the January timeline is for getting everything into a book. The submitting posts timeline should be much tighter. Hm, you have until Friday? Sure, that's a good day. All grade levels. Teachers in any setting.
DeleteThanks. I just submitted a post of my own. I checked the box because I had to, but it does not make sense to post that request for permission, since it's my own post.
ReplyDeleteIt kinda does because we're hoping to avoid double submissions. If people see that comment they won't submit it again. Also the permissions form has more questions so you need to fill out both!

DeleteI posted this revised version: I submitted this post to The Best of the Math Teacher Blogs 2016: a collection of people's favorite blog posts of the year. They intend to publish an edited volume of the posts soon and use the money raised toward a scholarship for TMC.
And I answered the permission form questions.
I can do things with spreadsheets if that's needed. Do you use a CSV upload to get it into press books? I could maybe help with that too.
ReplyDeleteAs far as what to do with the money, maybe it could be used to make the TMC experience more accessible to people who can't be there. Videographer?
To add to pressbooks you copy the entire blog post and pressbooks deals with much of the formatting. But I don't think there's an automated way to add posts.
